SEB Holds Off Okaw Valley Seventh Inning Surge To Get 12-9 Win

St. Elmo-Brownstown softball’s freshman class put an offensive clinic on Monday propelling the Lady Eagles to a 12-9 win over Okaw Valley. The Timberwolves took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but SEB erased that lead in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff solo home run from Brooklyn Landrus to tie the game at 1-1. After an Izzy Orr walk, Auni Wollin singled to left field to bring Orr in to score from first for a 2-1 lead. Macy Claycomb singled to put runners at the corners and Kadence Speagle reached base on an error as Wollin scored for a 3-1 SEB lead. A bases loaded hit by pitch of Macey Sapp would score the final run of the inning for the Lady Eagles to lead 4-1 at the end of the second. SEB edged their lead out to 5-1 with another run scored on an error and two more runs came in on a single from Speagle and a ground out by Daisy Chandler to push the Lady Eagles lead to 7-1. In the bottom of the fourth a double from Orr scored Sapp and SEB went up 8-1. Okaw Valley was able to put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning and cut the Lady Eagles lead down to 8-3. SEB got right back to work in the bottom of the fifth inning with a leadoff single from Claycomb and Speagle followed with a triple to bring Claycomb in to score as the Lady Eagles lead pushed out to 10-3. With two outs in the inning, SEB added two more runs on to their lead as Landrus doubled to center field to bring one run in and Orr singled to center field right after that to score the Lady Eagles final run of the game as SEB led 12-3. The sixth inning was mostly quiet for both teams with the exception of a big triple from Speagle for SEB but she was stranded on base to end the inning. Okaw Valley mounted a big comeback in the top of the seventh inning with straight singles to start the inning and a pair of SEB errors right after that allowing the Timberwolves to score five runs and cut the SEB lead to 12-8. After two outs Okaw Valley added one more run before a fly out ended the game and the Lady Eagles held off the Timberwolves for the 12-9 win. SEB moves back to .500 on the season at 3-3 and they will be off until Thursday when they play at North Clay for a National Trail Conference matchup.
