Altamont Scores Late But Can't Catch Up to Sullivan in Road Loss

Altamont softball struggled to get their offense going and a three-run sixth inning didn’t them close enough to a comeback as they fell at Sullivan 8-3 on Monday. Sullivan scored six unanswered runs across the first five innings to lead the Lady Indians 6-0. In the top of the sixth, Altamont led the inning off with a walk drawn by Avery Fleeharty and a single by Cecilia Pearcy. A groundout from Ella Nelson moved the runners up to second and third. Fleeharty was called out at home on a sacrifice attempt giving the Lady Indians two outs with runners at second and third again. Adilynn Schnarre hit a line drive to center field that brought in Pearcy to give Altamont their first run and cut it to 6-1 and Sophia Long followed with a shot to the shortstop that resulted in an error and allowed both Hankins and Schnarre to score and cut the Sullivan lead down further to 6-3. That was it for Altamont’s scoring as Sullivan added on two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the lead to 8-3 and the Lady Indians were held scoreless in the top of the seventh to close out the game. Altamont drops to 1-5 on the season and will be back at home on Tuesday to take on Cumberland in National Trail Conference action.
