South Central Softball Drops Two on Saturday at Casey-Westfield Tournament

South Central softball’s win streak to begin the season ended at five as they lost two tough games at the Casey-Westfield Tournament on Saturday. In Game One, the Lady Cougars trailed 1-0 before putting together an offensive burst with three straight singles from Emmie Ruholl, Baylee Brown and Annie Ruholl to start the inning before Maddie Peddicord drew the bases loaded walk to bring one run in and tie the game at 1-1. After a line out and a strikeout had the Cougars still sitting with bases loaded and two outs, Kinlee Thompson kept up her solid start to the season with a big triple to center field to clear the bases and put South Central up 4-1. Casey-Westfield answered with six runs in the bottom half of the inning as they retook the lead 7-4 and then later put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after holding the Lady Cougars scoreless over the final four innings to beat South Central 11-4. In Game Two, South Central faced Class 3A Mt. Zion who boasts an enrollment of 748 compared to South Central’s 180. The Lady Cougars were held to just three hits in the game, one each from Amelia Montes, Lauren Johnson and E. Ruholl with Johnson’s hit being a home run that scored South Central’s only run of the game as they suffered the 11-1 loss.
