The Vandalia Vandals used a 3-run fifth inning, and a solid pitching performance from Andrew Casey to come away with a 4-2 win over the Greenville Comets. The Vandals got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Kohnor Depew led off with a triple, and came home to score on a groundout from Jack Lewis to give Vandalia a 1-0 lead. That lead would hold until the top of the fifth inning when Greenville would take the lead with a pair of two-out hits to take a 2-1 lead. Vandalia would immediately respond when Owen Halford singled and Depew walked to start the bottom of the fifth. Lewis would reach on an error allowing the runners to score, giving the Vandals a 3-2 lead. Two batters later, Chase Cearlock would single to score Lewis, giving Vandalia a 4-2 lead, and Casey and Qwentyn Stombaugh would combine for the next six outs, giving the Vandals the 4-2 win. The win moves Vandalia to 2-1 on the season. They will be on the road Friday to take on Ramsey-Mulberry Grove before rounding out their week with a round robin on Saturday with South Central and Mater Dei.
