South Central softball has now started the season with three straight shutouts from three different pitchers after the Lady Cougars dominated Cisne, 15-0, in a shortened four inning game on Wednesday. After a scoreless first inning for both teams and holding the Lions scoreless in the top of the second, the floodgates opened for the South Central offense in the bottom of the second inning. Kinlee Thompson led off the inning with a walk and scored on an error by the Cisne pitcher to open the scoring. Zoey Fedhake singled and Emmie Ruholl doubled to scored Feldhake and edge the lead to 2-0. Baylee Brown then walked and during the next at bat, E. Ruholl’s courtesy runner Kyndl Bolen scored on a wild pitch and Brown scored on a fielder’s choice from Annie Ruholl as South Central’s lead grew to 4-0. Maddie Peddicord kept the big offensive burst going with a two run home run to left field pushing the lead to 6-0. A walk by Amelia Montes and subsequent steal of second base put another Lady Cougar runner in scoring position and a double by Perci Reid brought Montes in to score for a 7-0 lead. Thompson followed that up with a solo home run in her second at bat of the inning pushing the lead out further to 9-0. Lauren Johnson singled and Feldhake walked to load the bases and both came in to score on a triple from E. Ruholl and then the courtesy runner Bolen scored on a wild pitch as South Central went up 12-0. The offensive onslaught was stopped after a groundout and a pickoff at second base. Cisne and South Central both went scoreless through the third inning despite the Lady Cougars having the bases loaded with just one out in the inning. South Central was able to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a single by Montes, an error and a wild pitch as they hit a 15-0 lead and triggered the run rule. Thompson got the win on the mound going all four innings, allowing no runs on two hits, walking one and striking out six batters. South Central is now 3-0 on the season having outscored their first three opponents 52-0 with three shutouts and two no-hitters. They will have their first big tests of the season this weekend as they play Casey-Westfield at 10:00am and Mt. Zion at 12:00pm on Saturday in the Casey-Westfield Tournament.
