Altamont's Early Lead Doesn't Hold Up Against Casey-Westfield's Late Offensive Surge

Altamont baseball broke up a scoreless game in the third inning for a one run lead, but a four-run sixth inning by Casey-Westfield gave the Indians their second loss of the season, 4-1, on Tuesday. Altamont put a base runner on in each of the first two innings but were held scoreless until the top of the third inning. After back-to-back singles by Reed Stuemke and Kade Milleville to start the inning, a sacrifice by Cooper McManaway moved both runners into scoring position at second and third. Zaine Miller was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and Brayden Elam hit a grounder to shortstop and Stuemke scored from third on the fielder’s choice play to put the Indians up 1-0. Miller continued to hold Casey-Westfield scoreless on the mound through the fifth inning as Altamont maintained their 1-0 lead. The Warriors were able to tie the game up at 1-1 with a run early in the bottom of the sixth inning. Casey-Westfield took the lead, 2-1, on a single and put two more runs across the plate with a pair of walks and another two singles as Altamont trailed 4-1 to start the seventh inning. Will Reardon was hit by a pitch to start the seventh as Altamont had their lead guy on base, but a strikeout, a line out and a pick off at first ended the game. The Indians drop to 1-2 on the season and after a couple days off from competition, will play again on Friday at Effingham.
