Altamont baseball put up three runs in the first inning to jump ahead early and would hold that lead the rest of the game, beating Carlyle 8-1 on Saturday morning. After Kade Milleville struck out the side in the top of the first inning, he hit a leadoff single for Altamont in the bottom of the first and Cooper McManaway followed with a single of his own before a double from Zaine Miller and a single from Brayden Elam brought in three runs for the 3-0 lead at the end of the inning. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning before Altamont extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI groundout from Blake Berg that scored Miller. Carlyle was able to get a run across the plate in the top of the fourth and cut Altamont’s lead to 4-1. Altamont was quick to respond in the bottom of the inning when K. Milleville grounded into a fielder’s choice to bring one run in and then came into score himself on a passed ball and Altamont’s lead grew to 6-1. Altamont wrapped up its scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning when K, Milleville tripled home Reed Stuemke and then for the second time in the game, scored on a passed ball and Altamont went up 8-1. That was it for scoring in the game after scoreless sixth and seventh innings. With the win, Altamont is 1-1 to start the season and will be on the road on Tuesday at Casey-Westfield.
