Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for the week of March 21 are Brownstown St. Elmo junior basketball players Dayana Haslett and Madi Miller, Altamont senior basketball player Kade Milleville and South Central softball senior pitcher Lauren Johnson.

Three of the area’s top basketball players saw the accolades come rolling in after the completion of the girls and boys basketball seasons. During the IHSA Girls State Basketball Finals, the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Girls All- State Teams were released with Haslett being named Second Team All-State for this year and Miller being named Third Team All-State. Haslett finished the season with 703 points, an average of 20.7 points per game, along with 5.1 steals per game, 4.1 rebounds per game and 1.9 assists per game. For Miller, she finished with 430 points, an average of 13.0 points per game, as well as 7.8 rebounds per game, 1.7 steals per game and 1.1 blocks per game. The pair were a part of a Lady Bombers team who finished the season at 30-4, the first BSE girls team to ever reach the 30-win mark for a season as well as going 9-0 in regular season National Trail Conference play to win the regular season title and took 2nd in the NTC Tournament. They also three-peated as Dieterich Holiday Tournament Champions this season. On the boys side of things, the IBCA released the Boys All-State Teams during the IHSA Boys State Finals and Milleville was named Second Team All-State. Milleville wrapped up his senior campaign averaging 14.1 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, 4.5 assists per game and 1.8 steals per game. He was named MVP of the National Trail Conference, was on the NTC All-Tournament Team, was an I70Sports Athlete of the Week this season and also became the newest member of Altamont’s 1,000 Point Club.

South Central softball got their 2026 season underway on Friday and Johnson wasted no time getting her first win on the mound and also spinning a no-hitter in her last high school season opener. Johnson faced just 15 batters and threw only 57 pitches in the four inning win, allowing no hits or runs and racking up 9 strikeouts while giving up a pair of walks. Along with her team’s strong offensive showing, she also helped herself at the plate going 1-2 with a walk and two RBI.
