Cowden-Herrick/Beecher Cit baseball had no answer for Newton on Friday as the Bobcats were held to just a pair of hits in an 11-0 loss at Newton in their season opener. Newton took an early 1-0 lead with a first inning run to open up the game’s scoring. CHBC got their first hit of the game on a single from C Ondes with an out in the top of the third inning, but that runner was stranded aboard as Newton continued to lead CHBC 1-0. The Bobcats second hit of the game came on a leadoff single by Isaac Wells to start the fourth inning, but a double play and a strikeout erased the runner and kept the Bobcats trailing 1-0. Newton put two runs across the plate in the bottom half of the inning and pushed their lead over CHBC to 3-0 and after the Bobcats were again held scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, the Eagles scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth for an 11-0 lead to trigger the run rule as CHBC suffered the loss. The Bobcats are 0-1 to start the season and will look to rebound on Monday when they are on the road again at Pana.
