Altamont was able to take a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning but couldn’t hold off a late game surge by Central A&M, dropping their home opener to the Raiders 10-3 on Friday. Central A&M got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning and that 1-0 lead held until Altamont got their offense moving in the bottom of the fourth inning. Laila Hankins reached base on an error and Kennedi Schultz put down a bunt and reached on an error with Hankins coming around to score on that error as Altamont tied the game up 1-1. Adilynn Schnarre then doubled to center field to bring in Schultz for a 2-1 Lady Indians lead. With two outs in the inning and a runner at second, Avery Fleeharty singled on a hard ground ball to second base and Schnarre scored from second to make it 3-1 Altamont to end the inning. The Raiders responded in the top of the fifth with five runs to regain the lead 6-3 while Altamont got two base runners on in the bottom of the fifth but they were stranded at first and second to end the inning. Central A&M scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 8-3 and again the Lady Indians were able to get a runner on base but a double play ended the inning as Altamont continued to trail 8-3. After the Raiders drew a leadoff walk to start the seventh inning, Altamont was able to get a pair of outs, but Central A&M put two late runs across the plate and pushed their lead to 10-3. The Lady Indians picked up two quick outs to start the bottom of the seventh but started to threaten with a pair of walks and a double loading the bases but a strikeout ended the scoring threat and the game. Altamont drops to 0-2 to start the season and after the weekend off, will be at home again on Monday as they host Fairfield.
