Altamont Takes Lead Early But Falls After Fifth Inning Comeback By ALAH

Altamont baseball was able to grab a 5-run lead early, but Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond used a six-run fifth inning to take the lead and hand the Indians a 7-6 loss in Altamont’s season opener on the road on Thursday. After a scoreless first inning, the Indians got a leadoff walk from Kaidyn Wolff and a double from Blake Berg to put runners on and an RBI groundout from Parker Bell brought Wolff in to score for a 1-0 Altamont lead. ALAH was unable to respond in the bottom of the second and Altamont got going again in the top of the third inning with Kade Milleville leading things off with a double, Cooper McManaway drawing a walk and then Milleville scoring on a fielder’s choice from Zaine Miller to edge the lead out to 2-0. A Brayden Elam walk loaded the bases and Wolff and Berg drew back-to-back walks to bring in two more runs and double the lead to 4-0. After a strikeout for the first out of the inning with bases still loaded, Will Reardon drew a walk to bring in another run as the Altamont lead was pushed out to 5-0. ALAH was still held scoreless in the bottom of the third and the Indians were able to get a leadoff single in the top of the fourth, but a pop out and two fly outs ended the half inning. The Knights scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Indians lead to 5-1. Altamont was sat down on just eight pitches in the top of the fifth before ALAH used a mix of six singles, a double, a walk and an error to put six runs on the scoreboard and take the lead over Altamont, 7-5. The Indians tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh on a leadoff solo home run by Brayden Elam to make it 7-6, but that would be it for the game’s scores as the Indians took the one run loss. Altamont starts the season at 0-1 and will have their home opener today on Saturday when they play Carlyle at 10:00am.
