Vandals Can't Overcome Early Deficit in Season-Opening Loss to Cumberland

The Vandalia Vandals allowed 9 runs in the first two innings, and could not recover, falling to the Cumberland Pirates 13-1 on Wednesday night. Cumberland got on the board in the top of the first inning on a fielder’s choice to take a 1-0 lead, before blowing the game open in the top of the second, with an 8-run frame to take a 9-0 lead. The Vandals would get their lone run in the bottom of the third inning when Kohnor Depew led off with a triple to right field, before coming home to score on a groundout from Drew Johnes.
