St. Elmo-Brownstown softball unexpectedly got to start their season at home on Tuesday and used a quick start to grab a 12-2 win over Cisne after the game originally schedule to be played at Cisne was moved to Deken Park in St. Elmo. The Lions were able to get one run in the top of the first for the early 1-0 lead but the Eagles would counter with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a passed ball and on an RBI single by Macey Sapp to go up 2-1. Seb freshman pitcher Kadence Speagle was able to sit down Cisne on three strikeouts with just one runner reaching base on a fly ball error as SEB kept their one run lead. In the bottom of the second, the Eagles took advantage of their speed on the basepaths and scored on a Cisne error, on a bunt RBI single from Dayana Haslett, on a couple passed balls and a wild pitch to push their lead out to 7-1. That lead was expanded to 10-1 in the bottom of the third inning as D Haslett doubled to bring in a run and Sapp singled to brin in two more runs. After a scoreless fourth inning, Cisne was able to get a runner on base with a leadoff double to center field and that runner scored on a passed ball to cut the Eagles lead to 10-2. After getting out of the half inning having allowed just the one run, SEB got a leadoff walk from Cami Haslett and then a bunt single from Speagle to put runners at the corners before D Haslett hit a one out double to center field to bring both runners in to make it 12-2 and give the Eagles the 12-2 run rule win. SEB starts their season off at 1-0 and will have until Monday off when they play the first of what will be three tough games next week against Shelbyville on Monday, Nokomis on Tuesday and Cumberland on Thursday.
