Altamont grad and EIU freshman pitcher Grace Lemke got her first start and first win in the circle for the defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Panthers as they picked up a 10-4 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday in the Battle in the Boro Tournament In Statesboro, Georgia. Lemkeās teammates took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning to spot her a pair of runs to work with in her start. After giving up a leadoff walk and a run in the bottom of the first inning, Lemke settled in and retired the side in the bottom of the second inning, gave up a walk and no runs facing four batters in both the third and fourth innings. The EIU offense backed up Lemke even more with a six-run fifth inning for a 9-2 lead with Lemke then being pulled in the bottom of the fifth after giving up a run on three hits in the inning. Lemke starts her collegiate career at 1-0 with 2 strikeouts, 3 walks and a 3.23 ERA. EIU went 2-3 on the weekend and will make their way to Youngsville, Louisiana this weekend for the Mardi Gras Mambo where they will face Nicholls State, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston, Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana.
