Vandals Win Third In A Row, Beat Greenville in Wednesday Night SCC Game

The Vandals have had a good start to their busy week as they picked up another win on Wednesday night, beating Greenville 59-43 in a rescheduled South Central Conference matchup. After Greenville opened the game’s scoring, the Vandals and Comets traded the lead until a late three-pointer in the quarter had Vandalia trailing 12-9 to end the quarter. Two more big three-pointers by the Comets to open the second quarter had the Vandals trailing 18-11, but Qwentyn Stombaugh sparked an 11-3 run that put Vandalia back in front, 22-21, and an 8-4 run from that point had the Vandals leading 30-25 at halftime. A big defensive effort in the third quarter had the Vandals outscoring the Comets 14-5 in the quarter as the Vandalia lead was extended out to 44-30 to start the fourth quarter. While the Comets were able to pick up their scoring in the fourth and stay close to the Vandals 15-13 over the final eight minutes of the game, the Vandals quarter-opening lead was more than enough for them to finish off the 59-43 conference win. Vandalia has won their last three games now and after playing Monday and Wednesday already this week, they will be in action again at home on Friday night for another SCC contest against Southwestern before they hit the road again for a Saturday afternoon matchup at Sullivan.

Vandalia Scoring:

Qwentyn Stombaugh – 23 points

Lucas Bowers – 12 points

Andrew Casey – 10 points

Brenton McCarty – 5 points

Paddy McDowell – 5 points

Carter Robbins – 4 points
