Second Half Scoring Woes Hold BSE Back in NTC Championship Game Loss

The normally steady scoring Brownstown-St. Elmo Lady Bombers were held to single digit scoring in each of the final three quarters as they were handed their first loss since November 22, falling to Cumberland 44-33 in the Championship game of the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament. BSE was able to get out to a quick start, pulling out to a 17-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Their scoring would begin to falter in the second quarter though as the Lady Pirates outscored the Lady Bombers 14-8 in the second quarter leaving the game tied up 25-25 at halftime. BSE’s scoring slowed more in the third quarter as they were held to six points in the quarter and Cumberland outscored them by seven points as the Bombers trailed 38-31. BSE was held to just two points in the fourth quarter as they couldn’t solve the Cumberland defense and were handed the 44-33 loss. BSE moves to 21-2 on the season and will get right back into action with a pair of games early this week, taking on North Clay at home on Monday and traveling to South Central on Tuesday.
