Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City put on a steady show of offense while South Central was held to single digit scoring in each of the first three quarters as the Bobcats thumped the Cougars 58-38 in National Trail Conference action on Friday night. CHBC used an opening quarter 12-4 run behind six points from Griffin Vaughn and four from Porter Lilly to open with an eight point lead. The second quarter saw the Cougars slow start continue as they were held to six points while the Bobcats tacked on 14 more points with five each from August Cosart and Vaughn and four points from Remington Howell as the CHBC lead was pushed out to 26-10 at halftime. The steady scoring continued for the Bobcats while the Cougars improved their scoring but were still held to single digits in the third quarter as Westin Neilson scored all nine Cougar points and CHBC outscored South Central 15-9 in the quarter behind six points each from Clive Schlanser and Vaughn to put the Bobcats ahead 41-19 at the end of the third quarter. South Central found some late offensive flow in the fourth quarter, outscoring CHBC 19-17 in the quarter, but their deficit was too much to overcome and the Bobcats went on to finish off the 58-38 win over the Cougars. CHBC improves to 9-11 on the season and 2-4 in the NTC. South Central falls to 7-13 on the season and 0-5 in the NTC. They both will be in action at the NTC Tournament next week in Altamont with CHBC opening play on Monday at 6:15pm against Neoga while South Central will play Monday at 7:45pm against St. Elmo-Brownstown.
