Brownstown-St. Elmo used a big run through the second and third quarters to pull away as South Central struggled to score and the Lady Bombers routed the Lady Cougars 55-18 in the quarterfinals of the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament on Tuesday night. The first quarter was a very low scoring one with the teams combining for just 10 points as BSE took an 8-2 lead to end the quarter. Things quickly changed in the second quarter as the Lady Bombers went on a 23-5 run to kick their scoring into high gear for a 31-7 halftime lead. South Central was able to slow down BSE a little bit in the third quarter but the Lady Bombers again outscored the Lady Cougars 17-7 as BSE opened their lead to 48-14 at the end the third quarter before a 7-4 advantage for BSE in the fourth quarter closed out the 55-18 win. The win puts BSE at the 20-win mark on the season as they are now 20-1 with 17 straight wins and they move on into the first Championship Semifinal game tonight at 8:00pm where they face Altamont. With the loss, South Central is now 4-10 on the season and they drop into the Consolation bracket where they will face Dieterich tonight at 6:30pm.
