
As the #9 seed, South Central girls pulled a small upset in their opening game of the National Trail Conference tournament on Monday beating #8 seed Dieterich 48-40.
Trailing 13-5 after the first quarter, six different Cougars scored in the second quarter to help cut their deficit down to 5 as they trailed 24-19 at halftime.
South Central got their offense going in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Dieterich 17-7 behind 8 points in the quarter from Laney Webster as they took the lead 36-30 going into the 4th quarter. The Cougars again outscored Dieterich in the fourth allowing just two baskets from the floor with the Maroons getting their other five points at the free throw line as South Central closed out the 48-40 win.

South Central is now 7-12 on the season after back-to-back wins. They move on to play top-seeded Altamont on Thursday at 5:30pm at Beecher City High School.
