Altamont Can't Overcome First Half Deficit in NTC Loss to Cumberland

The Altamont Lady Indians fell behind by double digits in the second quarter and they were unable to recover in a 68-47 loss to Cumberland in National Trail Conference action at home on Monday. Despite six points from Alyssa Ruholl and a pair of three-pointers from Reagan Kuenstler and Ella Nelson in the first quarter, Altamont trailed 23-14 to start the second. The Lady Indians struggled to stop the Lady Pirates in the frame though and were outscored 20-8 as they trailed 43-22 at halftime. The second half in itself was a close battle between the two teams as the third quarter saw Cumberland outscore Altamont 12-11 with Nelson putting up six points in the quarter and then Justyce Higgs came off the bench for all eight of her points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Indians outscored Cumberland 14-13. But, the large halftime deficit was too much to overcome as the Lady Indians were never able to put together enough offense to pull ahead and pull away from the Lady Pirates as they suffered the 68-47 loss. Altamont is now 9-8 overall on the season and they drop just their second NTC game of the season to move to 5-2 in the conference standings. The Lady Indians have another NTC matchup coming their way on Thursday when they take on Brownstown-St. Elmo on Thursday at Brownstown.
