Swyers and Gray Both Take Third at Murdale Girls Wrestling Tournament


Vandalia girls wrestling’s Brynn Swyers and Violet Gray both grabbed third place finishes at this weekend’s Murdale Girls Wrestling Tournament in Carbondale. At 155lbs, Gray got a win by Fall in 1:34 in Championship Round 1 before winning by Fall in 1:29 in the Quarterfinals. Gray took a tough loss by Fall in the Semifinals in 4:36 though and bumped into the Consolation Semifinals. Gray would earn a 4-3 win by Decision to earn a spot in the Third Place match where she picked up the win by Fall in 4:40 to finish off the tournament going 4-1 and grabbing Third place. At 170lbs, Swyers received a BYE for Championship Round 1 and then picked up a win Fall in 1:51 in the Quarterfinals. She would suffer a loss by Fall in 5:06 in the Semifinals to drop into the Consolation Semifinals where she got quick win by Fall in 18 seconds after having to wrestle her teammate Marlee Carroll. Swyers then grabbed another win by Fall in the Third Place match in 1:20 as the went 4-1 in the tournament and captured Third place.

As for other Lady Vandals competing in the tournament, at 115lbs, Briley Sefton went 0-2 on the tournament as she suffered a loss by Fall in 1:09 in Championship Round 1 and then suffered a loss by Decision in Consolation Round 1. At 155lbs Aydia White got a win by Fall in 1:44 in Championship Round 1 before taking a loss by Fall in 3:24 in the Quarterfinals. She dropped into Consolation Round 2 and got a win by Fall in 1:05 in Consolation Round 2 before her day came to an end with a loss by Major Decision in Consolation round 3 to finish the tournament at 2-2. At 170lbs, Marlee Carroll got a win by Fall in 1:45 in Championship Round 1 before suffering a loss by Fall in 1:58 in the Quarterfinals to fall into the Consolation bracket and got a win by Fall in 1:49 in Consolation Round 2 but then saw her day come to end when she suffered a loss by Fall to her teammate Brynn Swyers to finish the day at 2-2.
