Fourth Quarter Scoring Struggle Hinders Altamont Girls in Loss to Woodlawn


Altamont took an early lead and stayed close to Woodlawn after losing that lead but fell to the Cardinals 50-35 after being held to just four points in the fourth quarter. The Lady Indians started strong, outscoring Woodlawn 11-8, led by Ella Nelson who hit a pair of three-pointers in the quarter. The Cardinals got some offense moving and outscored Altamont 16-9 despite another pair of big three-pointers for the Lady Indians from Justyce Higgs, as Altamont trailed 24-20 at halftime. The Lady Indians were held to just a pair of field goals in the quarter, both from Nelson as Higgs went 4 for 4 from the free throw line and Kennedi Schultz was 2 for 2 from the line and Altamont was just outscored 13-11 but still remained within two possessions of Woodlawn, trailing 37-31 to start the fourth quarter. The Lady Indians managed just two baskets in the quarter as Woodlawn went on a 13-4 run and pulled away to hand Altamont the 50-35 loss. The Lady Indians are now 9-7 on the season and will have just today off before playing again on Monday at home. The JV will play at 6:00pm against the Teutopolis Fresh/Soph team with Varsity to follow against Cumberland.
