Brownstown-St. Elmo girls earned a big show of respect from AP voters as the Lady Bombers debuted as the #1 ranked 1A team in the first Associated Press High School Girls Basketball poll of the season that was released late Wednesday afternoon. The poll in past years has come out as early as mid-December, but with the early January release this year, teams have many more games under their belts. For BSE, they stand at 17-1 on the season with their lone loss of the season coming to Class 3A Highland by just seven points, 41-34, back on November 22 in the Pana Thanksgiving Tournament. And since then, the Lady Bombers have reeled off 14 straight wins. Of their 17 wins on the season, half of the wins have come against Class 1A schools while the Lady Bombers have six wins over 2A schools and also have two wins over 3A schools with their average win margin at just over 26 points. The Lady Bombers are in action again tonight as they’ll be on the road at Mt. Olive before they get a week off and then take on Altamont next Thursday, January 15 in National Trail Conference action and then they will play in the National Trail Conference Tournament beginning January 19.
