Ramsey's Jacob Cox Named Jeff Koontz Memorial Sportsmanship Award Winner

Just a little over a month after it was set to finish, the final Mulberry Grove Thanksgiving Tournament games were played after winter weather wiped out half the place day games at the end of November. As part of the two makeup games being played this past Saturday, the second annual Jeff Koontz Memorial Sportsmanship Award was presented. Last August, Jeff Koontz, a member of the Mulberry Grove School Board passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. In speaking about Koontz, it was written that he was described by his family as “loyal, caring, compassionate, a talented athlete in high school and an all-around great guy.” To honor Koontz’s memory, the “Jeff Koontz Sportsmanship Award” is now presented each year at the conclusion of the Thanksgiving Tournament to the participating athlete who “embodies the definition of who Jeff Koontz was as a person.” This year’s 2025 award honoree is Ramsey sophomore Jacob Cox. On hand to present the award to Cox on Saturday was Tina Koontz, wife of the late Jeff Koontz, and Jeff’s granddaughter Mia.
