The Vandalia Vandals got the 2026 potion of their schedule off on the wrong foot, falling to the North Clay Cardinals 80-66 on Saturday. The Vandals got behind early in the first quarter, getting outscored 26-14. Vandalia would begin to chip away at the deficit in the second quarter, going on a 23-14 run, highlighted by a three-pointer from Qwentyn Stombaugh at the buzzer, to enter halftime trailing 40-37. Both teams traded baskets to start the third quarter, but North Clay would narrowly outscore the Vandals 13-11 to enter the fourth quarter with a 53-48 lead. The Cardinals would go on a 27-18 run in the fourth quarter, to come away with the 80-66 win. The loss drops the Vandals to 8-7 on the season. Vandalia will be on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Newton.
