Vandalia Wrestling Takes Third at Abe's Rumble

Vandalia wrestling brought home a fifth top 3 finish from the Abe’s Rumble as they took third place on Tuesday, beating Murphysboro 46-31 in the Third Place match and going 3-1 on the day and 8-1 in the tournament. The Vandals began the day with a 58-16 win over Canton in Championship Round 2 before getting a 56-14 win over Petersburg PORTA in the Championship Quarterfinals. That win put them into the Championship Semifinals against Lena Winslow where they suffered a close 37-30 loss to drop into the Third Place match. The Vandals got off to a tough start against Murphysboro and trailed by three points with three weight classes to go. Three straight wins by fall in those classes gave the Vandals the win, 46-31. The Vandals have now finished 3rd place four times since the tournament started which joins their Championship last year along with two fifth place finishes and two seventh place finishes as the Vandals have never finishes lower than 7th in the nine years that the large year end tournament has been held. The Vandals are now 14-2 on the season and have another tough tournament coming up in the new year as they will compete at the Princeton Invitational Tournament on January 9 and 10.
