In its final tune-up before beginning holiday tournament play after Christmas, South Central basketball took an early lead and went on to get a 69-52 win over Sandoval at home on Wednesday night. The Cougars outscored the Blackhawks 19-14 in the first quarter as Westin Neilson put up 11 points in the quarter and Hudson Moore scored the other eight points for South Central. The Cougars added on to their lead with a 13-10 advantage in the second quarter, 12 of those points coming from Neilson, and that put South Central up 32-24 at halftime. A 16-13 run through the third quarter with Moore and Eli Heistand each putting in five points in the quarter further edged the Cougar lead out to 48-37 to end the third quarter. Neilson would put in another 10 points in the fourth quarter as South Central outscored Sandoval 21-15 and the Cougars finished off the win, 69-52. South Central moves to 5-6 on the season and after taking Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off, they begin play in the Dieterich Boys Holiday Tournament on Friday and will have their double day taking on Grayville at 1:00pm and facing Sullivan at 5:30pm in pool play.
