Big changes have been approved for high school football in 2026.
The IHSA released last week that a proposal that will increase the number of playoff teams per class from 32 to 48. And, it will also move the schedule up one week. Vandals Football Coach Jason Clay says he knows moving it up to start this coming year does cause some complications.
But, Coach Clay says he is overall in favor of the change.
The change will move the first week of the season to begin on August 20th in 2026. And, for top teams going into the playoffs it would create a scenario where they would get a buy in week one of the playoffs.
