Vandalia got off to a slow start before putting things together in the second quarter, but they couldn’t maintain the run as they were kept at arms-length of Staunton in a 52-40 loss on the road in South Central Conference action on Friday night. The Vandals were outscored 20-6 in the first quarter but they flipped the momentum in the second quarter with a 16-6 run that closed their deficit to 26-22 at halftime. A 15-9 Staunton run in the third quarter opened the Bulldogs lead over the Vandals back up to 41-31 by the end of the quarter. Vandalia was then held to nine points again in the fourth quarter as Staunton tacked on 11 points and the Vandals were unable to catch the Bulldogs and fell 52-40. The Vandals are now 1-1 in the SCC and drop to 5-4 on the season. They will have a week off before beginning play in their own Vandalia Holiday Tournament where they face Greenville in their first game of pool play at 4:30pm on Friday.
