The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats overcame a slow start, knocking off the Mulberry Grove Aces 67-41 in the first semifinal of the 65th Annual St. Elmo Holiday Tournament on Thursday. Turnovers plagued the two teams, but the Bobcats were able to turn some of them into points, outscoring the Aces 14-4. Both teams would pick up the offense in the second quarter, with CHBC narrowly outscoring Mulberry Grove 13-11. The Bobcats would begin to pull away in the third quarter, going on a 23-15 run to enter the fourth quarter with a 50-30 lead. CHBC would use a 17-11 scoring advantage to come away with the 67-41 victory. The win improves the Bobcats to 4-5 on the season, and 1-1 in tournament play. CHBC will play the winner of Ramsey and Patoka-Odin on Saturday for the Consolation Championship. The Aces fall to 1-8 on the season and 0– 2 in tournament play. Mulberry Grove will take on the loser of Ramsey and Patoka-Odin for seventh place on Saturday.
