Altamont boys basketball used steady scoring to get ahead of Carlyle in the first half and work towards a 53-42 win on the road on Tuesday night. Altamont just outscored Carlyle 11-10 in the first quarter, but would put up 10 points in both the second and third quarters while holding Carlyle to seven and six points, taking leads of 21-17 at halftime and 31-23 at the end of the third quarter. Scoring would double for both teams in the fourth quarter as they combined for 41 points in the final eight minutes as Altamont outscored Carlyle 22-19 to finish off the 53-42 win. While the shooting numbers for the two teams were nearly identical as they hit 15 and 16 two-point field goals and each hit two three-pointers, a big difference in the game would be free throws as Altamont was put at the line for 24 shots in the game as compared to 10 for Carlyle and Altamont knocked down 15 of those free throws. With the win, Altamont is now 4-2 on the season and will be back home on Friday as they host Tuscola.
