Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for the week of December14 are Vandalia basketball junior Qwentyn Stombaugh and Vandalia wrestling senior Dillon Hinton and junior Preston Waughtel.

Stombaugh, a guard for the Vandals, has been on a hot scoring streak this week putting up 72 points across three games for an average of 24 points per game this week. In the Vandals win over South Central on Tuesday, Stombaugh dropped 30 points and had another 20 in their win over North Mac on Friday before tallying 22 points in the Saturday night loss against Carlyle.

Hinton, wrestling at 157lbs for the Vandals, is off to very strong start to his final high school season with a 7-1 record through the Vandals first five duals and first tournament of the season. After a Tech Fall win in the Freeburg Dual, Hinton went 2-1 at the Civic Memorial Steve Bradley Invite taking 2nd place with his only loss coming by an 8-5 decision in the Championship bout. He then followed that tournament finish up with a pair of Major Decision wins in the Chatham Glenwood and Mahomet-Seymour duals. Hinton then wrapped up this past week’s competition with two wins by Fall in duals against Hillsboro and Roxana.

Waughtel, wrestling at 126lbs for the Vandals, picked up where he left off from his State Runner-Up sophomore season, beginning his junior season on a 5-0 tear. Waughtel opened up with a win by Tech Fall in the Freeburg dual before going 4-0 at the Civic Memorial Steve Bradley Invite with two wins by Fall in 24 seconds and 1:59 and two more Tech Fall wins including a 19-2 win in the Championship bout to take First Place and be the Vandals only Champion on the day.
