St. Elmo-Brownstown Pulls Away From Mulberry Grove in Second Half for Win


For the first half, the final pool play game of the Mulberry Grove Thanksgiving Tournament was a close battle before St. Elmo-Brownstown grabbed momentum in the second half and pulled away from Mulberry Grove for a 66-45 win. The first quarter would be a bit of a shootout as the Aces Connor Hartmann hit four three-pointers and the Eagles Jayden Hughett scored nine points with SEB leading Mulberry Grove by one, 16-15, to end the quarter. Hartmann stayed hot in the second quarter with 11 more points while SEB’s Graidon Wilhour found his groove with four three-pointers for 12 points as the game stayed close with the Eagles maintaining a small lead, 35-32, at halftime. The tide of the game would change in the third quarter as SEB held Mulberry Grove to just five points and used an 18-5 run to push their lead out to 53-37 by the end of the quarter and then closed out the win with a 13-8 fourth quarter run. SEB ends pool play at 2-1 while Mulberry Grove went winless at 0-3. SEB will play South Central at 4:30pm in the Third Place Game while Mulberry Grove will take on Ramsey at 1:30pm in the Seventh Place Game to get today’s slate of games started on the final day of the tournament.
