Altamont Girls Hold Off Marshall for Friday Night Road Win


The Altamont Lady Indians are off to a 2-0 start to the season after getting a hard fought win over Marshall, 65-60, on Friday night. Altamont got out to a quick start as they used their perimeter game to hit five three-pointers in the first quarter, with two each from Reagan Kuenstler and Ella Nelson, and outscored the Lions 24-10. Marshall was able to flip the script in the second quarter though as the Lady Indians were held to just 11 points in the quarter as the Lions 23-11 run had Altamont clinging to a 35-33 lead at halftime. Marshall was able to keep momentum going in the third quarter as they put their transition game into play and outscored Altamont 16-8 in the quarter to take the lead and have the Lady Indians trailing 49-43 to start the fourth quarter. Altamont battled its way back to the lead with some key baskets in the paint from Kaylee Lurkins and Avery Aldrich and Ada Roberts hit six of eight free throws late in the quarter as the Lady Indians held off the Lions late to secure the 65-60 win. Altamont will now take its 2-0 record into the Newton Bob Kerans Tournament next week with a tough matchup on Monday to open tournament play when they face Effingham at 6:00pm.
