Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for September 20 are the South Central Middle School Softball team and the Vandalia Jr. High Baseball team.

The South Central Middle School Lady Flacons softball team won its fourth straight Regional Championship last Saturday with a 6-1 win over Dieterich and then followed it up with their fourth straight Sectional Championship after beating Martinsville 7-1 on Tuesday evening and that earned South Central a fourth straight trip to the IESA 1A State Tournament. The Lady Falcons showed up bug in their Quarterfinal game on Friday, beating Pontiac St. Mary’s 18-8 in a five inning game to secure a spot in the Final Four and guarantee a Top 4 finish for the second year in a row. They play their semifinal game this morning again Mendota Holy Cross with a berth in the State Championship game on the line.

The Vandalia Jr. High made history this past week, winning the program’s first ever IESA 3A Regional Championship, beating host Effingham in the title game 8-2 on Wednesday. The win puts the Jr. Vandals at 15-1-1 on the season and they will look to make even more history as they compete in the Sectional Championship game this morning against Chatham Glenwood with a trip to the IESA State Tournament on the line.
