South Central scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning on a home run by Seth Jones as they grabbed a 3 to 1 win over Newton on the road on Thursday. Trailing 1-0, the Cougars had Evan Hoover single and Luke Shumate was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. After getting to just a 1-1 count, Seth Jones then drove a shot over the left field fence for a 3-run home run to give South Central the 3-1 lead. Both the Cougars and the Eagles would have runners on in the sixth and seventh innings but were unable to bring any runners home as the Cougars lead held for the 3-1 win. South Central is now 9-10 on the season and will be back at home to host Edwards County today.
