Pro Wire Athlete of the Week

Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for April 19 are Vandalia Boys track junior sprinter and Vandalia baseball centerfielder Kohnor Depew, Vandalia boys 4×100 relay team of Jay Keck, Paddy McDowell, Depew and Ian Whitehead and Altamont senior jumper Ben Roedl.

Depew continued his record breaking ways on the track with another school record performance while the dual Spring sport athlete also got it done on the field for the Vandals over the past week. Just a week after beating the 100m Dash school record, Depew broke his own record in Thursday’s home meet, this time running a time of 11.14 seconds to beat his record of 11.27 seconds. This week Depew also played in four games for the Vandals including splitting time on both Tuesday and Thursday between the baseball field and track. Depew went 6 for 11 with two doubles and two RBI leading to a .545 batting average, .727 slugging percentage and a .500 on base percentage.

The Vandals boys 4×100 relay team of Keck, McDowell, Depew and Whitehead broke the school record set back in 2017 of 44.82 as they ran a 44.54 on Thursday as they have now dropped time in each of their four outdoor appearances this season. Their new best time is currently the 15th fastest 4×100 time in Class 1A this season.

Roedl broke his own school record in the triple jump event during the Indians’ meet at Teutopolis on Tuesday. Roedl’s previous record set last year of 44’ 3.5” was bested by Ben with a jump this week of 45’ 1.25”. That distance is the 8th best triple jump in all three IHSA classes this outdoor season and Roedl currently own the top spot in Class 1A.
