The Vandalia Holiday Tournament drought has now reached 38 years for the host Vandals after their 73 to 40 loss to Pana in the championship game of the 48th annual Vandalia Holiday Tournament.
The Vandals last won the title of their own tournament in 1981. Going back to that time, they have won 5 in a row and 6 of the first 10 titles in the tournament’s history—but none since then. This year marked the 8th time the Vandals have reached the title game since 1981, but losing each time. Falling to Pana in the championship game has an extra bitter taste. The Vandals have fallen to Pana in the title game five times since ’81–1997, 2001, 2002, 2012 and 2019.
The Vandals finish the tournament at 4-1 and have 3 all tournament team members-Garrett Austin, Mitchell Casey and Matthew Wells. The Vandals are now 8-6 on the season. They are off until January 10th then they return to South Central Conference action at Litchfield.
In the Championship Game loss–
Garrett Austin 13 points, Mitchell Casey 12 points, Carson Ruot & Case Goldsmith 4 points each, Matthew Wells 3 points, Connor Satterthwaite & Gaige Beall 2 points each
