Altamont Holds Off South Central To Win NTC Quarterfinal Game

Altamont took an early lead and was able to hold off a scrappy South Central effort in a 48-39 win in the Quarterfinals of the National Trail Conference on Wednesday night. The Indians were able to get out to a 9-3 first quarter lead as the Cougars were held to just one field goal and one free throw in the quarter. South Central would get their offense rolling in the second quarter and outscored Altamont 17-14 to shrink the gap to three points, as the Cougars closed up the Indians lead to 23-20 at halftime. Altamont would mix in their perimeter game a little more in the third quarter while South Central couldn’t keep up as they were outscored 15-10 in the quarter and the Indians pushed their lead out to 38-30 at the end of the third quarter. The two teams would play fairly even in the fourth quarter with South Central again closing the gap, but would have to put Altamont at the free throw line in the closing minute and a half where the Indians went 5 of 6 to close out the 48-39 win over the Cougars. Altamont improves to 10-9 on the season and advances into the Championship Semifinals where they face Dieterich on Friday at 7:45pm. South Central is now 13-7 on the season and will go into the Consolation side of the bracket where they will await the winner of tonight’s matchup between SEB and CHBC to find out their opponent for Friday’s Consolation Semifinal on Friday at 6:15pm.
