CHBC and Altamont both suffered close losses in their respective place games on the final day of the National Trail Conference Tournament on Saturday at Beecher City High School.
In the Fifth Place game, CHBC was able to get out to a small 13-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and edged that lead out to four points, 28-24, at halftime. After just outscoring Dieterich 11-10 in the third quarter, the Bobcats lead would be 39-34 to start the fourth quarter. The Maroons began to mount the late comeback and would go on a 15-7 run to get the come from behind win and hand CHBC the 49-45 loss. CHBC drops to 10-13 on the season and will have just a day off before returning to action on Monday as they will have a regular season NTC matchup with Neoga who they just beat in the tournament this past Wednesday.
In the Third Place game, Altamont took a slim 14-12 lead over Windsor/Stew-Stras at the end of the first quarter. The Indians would outscore the Hatchets by a small 12-10 margin in the second quarter to edge their lead out to 26-22 at halftime. WSS would get momentum swinging their way in the third quarter though and go on a run to outscore the Lady Indians, 13-7, and take the lead as Altamont trailed 35-33 at the end of the quarter. The Indians stayed right with WSS in the fourth quarter but were unable to capitalize on a last second possession as they fell by two points, 47-45. Altamont is now 9-14 on the season and will be on the road on Monday to take on Ramsey.
