Brownstown-St. Elmo girls basketball punched their ticket to the Championship game of the Dieterich Holiday Tournament after beating Arcola 57-33 on Friday to finish up pool play at 3-0. The Lady Bombers would have to fight through a tight first quarter to get themselves a two point lead, 15-13, at the end of the first quarter. They would be able to get a swing of momentum in the second quarter and would go on a 17-5 to pull away to a 32-18 halftime lead. Arcola came out tough to start the second half, making BSE work for their six points in the quarter as the Purple Riders took the 9-6 advantage in the quarter and cut the Bombers lead down to 38-27. Just as quickly as they did in the second quarter, BSE flipped a switch and went on a 19-6 run through the fourth quarter to pull themselves away and close out a big 57-33 win. The win put the Lady Bombers at 3-0 in pool play and earns them a spot in the Championship game on Saturday night at 6:00pm against the Marshall Lady Lions who went 3-0 in Pool B play. This will be a rematch of the title game from two years ago when BSE fell to Marshall 57-48 after a tough battle with the Bombers trailing late in the game and having to foul to stop the clock while Marshall knocked down their free throws in the closing minutes to put the game away. This year BSE comes into the game at 15-2 on the season while Marshall comes in at 9-6 on the season. We will have the broadcast of the game for you on 107.1 FM WKRV and streaming live at www.vandaliaradio.com and on the VandaliaRadio app.
