Vandalia girls basketball picked up its fourth straight win on Thursday night, beating Southwestern 42-28 in their South Central Conference opener. The Lady Vandals were able to run out to an 11-4 lead after the first quarter but the Piasa Birds would flip the momentum in the second quarter and go on their own run, 11-6, to pull within two points of Vandalia at halftime, 27-25. The Lady Vandals would come out strong in the third quarter and outscore Southwestern 11-5 to push their lead to 28-20 at the end of the third quarter. A 14-8 fourth quarter run would finish off the 42-28 Lady Vandals win. Vandalia is now 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in the SCC. After playing two of three games at home this last week, the Lady Vandals head back out on the road Monday for a matchup at Flora.
