Altamont Baseball Goes 2-1, Finishes Second at Beardstown Tiger Showcase

Altamont baseball went 2-1 on Friday and Saturday at the Tiger Showcase, hosted by Beardstown High School baseball, with their only loss of the weekend coming in the Championship game putting an end to their seven game win streak. The Indians opened up showcase play on Friday evening with their first game of pool play, getting a dominating 13-0 win over Bushnell-Prairie City. Altamont pitcher Aden McManaway held the Spartans to just two hits and racked up 11 strikeouts in the five inning complete game shutout while catcher Nate Stuemke went 3 for 4 in the game with 4 RBI. On Saturday, Altamont would have a similar storyline in their 8-0 shutout win over host Beardstown in their second pool play game. Indians senior pitcher Dillan Elam would hold the Tigers to just two hits and tallied nine strikeouts in his complete game shutout win on the mound. Kaden Davis and Ethan Robbins would both go 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI each in the win that marked the seventh in a row for Altamont. Their 2-0 record in pool play would pit the Indians against the undefeated Lewistown/Valley/Cuba Miners in the Championship game. After the Indians were held scoreless in the top of the first and LVC put up three runs for a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the first. The Indians would respond with a run in the top of the second and two more in the top of the third to tie the game up at 3-3. After a scoreless fourth inning for both teams, LVC broke the tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead over the Indians. Altamont was held scoreless through the sixth and seventh and also held LVC scoreless in the sixth as the Indians suffered the 6-3 loss. Davis and Keegan Schults each had multi-hit games with Schultz also adding a pair of RBI in the loss. After the second place finish, Altamont now stands at 11-5 on the season and will have just one day off after their weekend road trip before they get back on the road Monday to take on Windsor/Stew-Stras.
