South Central lost a 13 point 2nd half lead, but were able to fight their way to a 47 to 40 Overtime win over CHBC as they advance to the Championship game of the Mulberry Grove Thanksgiving Tournament.
The first half was pretty tight for the first 12 minutes with not a lot of scoring. The 2 teams were tied at 10 after the 1st quarter and were tied at 13 halfway through the 2nd quarter before South Central went on a 9-0 run before halftime to take a 22 to 13 lead into the locker room. South Central kept that momentum going in the early part of the 3rd quarter and would get the lead to 30 to 17 midway through the 3rd quarter. But, CHBC would slowly rally–cutting their deficit to 6 heading to the 4th quarter and the Bobcats would take a 36 to 33 lead on a Carson Evans 3 pointer late in the 4th. Callaway Smith answered with a 3 pointer of his own to tie the game at 36 and then head to overtime. In the extra session, Brody Markley would score 5 points and Seth Bergmann had 4 points—and the 2 combined to go 5 for 6 at the Free Throw Line in OT as South Central survived with the win. For the Cougars, they move to the Championship game of the Mulberry Grove Thanksgiving Tournament this evening at 6 pm as they will take on SEB. CHBC is now 1-2 on the season and will play in the 5th place game versus Ramsey at 3 pm today.
