Lady Comets Fall on Marquette Last Second Bucket, Pickett with 31 Points in the Game for Greenville

Greenville girls basketball will not repeat as champions of the Columbia Girls Tip-Off Classic after falling to Alton Marquette 57-56 in the second semifinal game of the tournament on Thursday. Greenville trailed 15-14 at the end of the 1st quarter before finding themselves down by 7 at the half after being outscored 16-10 in the second quarter.

The Comets came out fast in the second half outscoring Marquette 16-8 to regain the lead, 40-39 at the end of the 3rd. With Greenville up 56-55, Marquette sophomore point guard Adrenna Snipes hit a last second shot to give the Explorers the win.

Rylee Pickett led the Lady Comets in scoring, with 31 points in the game. Natalie Iberg finished with 10 points and Hannah Simpson added 9 points. Megan Halleman scored 4 points and Danielle Brand added 2 points.

Greenville is now 1-1 on the season and will now face Waterloo in the 3rd Place game on Saturday at 1pm. Alton Marquette will face host Columbia in the Championship game at 2:30 Saturday.

 

In freshman girls basketball action, Greenville fell to Staunton 44-25. Hannah Potthast had 9 points and Charlee Stearns added 7 points.
