
South Central’s volleyball season has come to an end after the Lady Cougars fell to Altamont Thursday night 21-25, 19-25 in the championship game of the South Central 1A Regional.
South Central came out strong in the first set, getting out to a 5-0 lead behind four aces from the service line. Altamont rallied to take a 15-10 lead before South Central closed the gap a bit to 22-19 before Altamont finished off the set win.
In the second set, the two teams traded points for a majority of the set before Altamont pulled out to a 6-point lead before closing out the match.

South Central ends their season with a record of 22-11-1.
With the season’s end, it also ends the coaching career of South Central Coach Mary Brimberry who will retire at the end of the year. Brimberry’s record over her 25-year career stands at 581 wins, 210 losses and 1 tie amounting to a .734 win percentage, 10 Regional Championship titles and 1 Sectional Championship title. Brimberry was honored for her many years of coaching in a surprise ceremony prior to South Central’s second to last home game of the regular season.
Altamont, now 29-7-1, advances on to the Windsor Sectional where they will face Kansas in the Sectional Semifinals on Monday, November 4 at 6:30pm. The winner of that game will advance to the Sectional Championship game against the winner of the other Sectional Semifinal between Windsor/Stew-Stras and Cumberland.
