Roxana Set to Leave the South Central Conference

The Roxana Shells are set to leave the South Central Conference following approval by the Roxana School Board on Thursday night. Greg Shashack of the Alton Telegraph reported this morning that the board approved “a move for the Shells to leave the South Central Conference to join the Cahokia Conference no later than the 2022-23 school year, possibly 2021-22.” The vote came after it was released on several news outlets earlier this week that the Cahokia Conference had extended invitations to five different schools including Okawville, Sparta, Chester, East Alton-Wood River and the Shells. With Thursday night’s vote, Roxana is the first school to accept an invitation.

Roxana is currently the largest school in the South Central Conference and their departure will leave the conference with 9 schools. The SCC has been a 10-team conference since 2012 when they approved the removal of Roxana, East Alton-Wood River and Alton Marquette from the conference but the decision to remove Roxana was reversed before they actually left the conference.
