Lady Vandals Can't Hold Early Lead in SCC Loss to Gillespie


The Vandalia Lady Vandals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, but could not hang on, falling to the Gillespie Lady Miners 8-2 on Friday. The Lady Vandals jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning when Bella Walk came around to score on a groundout from Briley Sefton, and Elania Hagy scored on a passed ball to take an early 2-0 lead. That lead would hold until the top of the third inning when Gillespie would score on an error to cut the lead to 2-1. The Lady Miners would take the score two runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead, before breaking the game open with a 4-run top of the fifth inning to make the score 7-2. Gillespie would add on an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning, and the Lady Vandals would be held scoreless the final two frames, falling to the Lady Miners 8-2. The loss drops Vandalia to 1-9 on the season and 0-1 in SCC play. The Lady Vandals will be on the road on Monday to take on Mulberry Grove.
