The Lady Indians grabbed an early lead in the first inning and then put the game out of reach late to get a 10-2 win over Nokomis on Friday night. Nokomis put up a run in the top of the first inning but Altamont quickly got to work in the bottom of the inning. Avery Fleeharty singled to lead off the inning and came around to score when Cecilia Pearcy hit a ground ball to shortstop that resulted in a Nokomis error. Ella Nelson kept things rolling with a double to center field to score Pearcy and then scored herself on a single by Adilynn Schnarre for a 3-1 Altamont lead at the end of the inning. Nokomis pulled to within a run in the top of the third inning, cutting it to a 3-2 game and it would stay that way until Altamont put together another big rally in the bottom of the fifth inning. Fleeharty again led things off with a single and then scored on an RBI single from Nelson to make it 4-2. Nelson scored when Sophia Long reached base on a Nokomis error to edge the lead to 5-2 before a single from Jocelyn Pearcy with bases loaded pushed two runs in for a 7-2 Lady Indians lead. Altamont kept pushing and with bases again loaded and Fleeharty at the plate for the second time in the inning, Kennedi Schultz scored from third on a passed ball and then on the next pitch, Haley Arend scored on a second passed ball as Altamont’s lead grew to 9-2. Fleeharty then sent the 3-1 pitch to right field to bring in Reagan Kuenstler and put Altamont up 10-2 before a ground out ended the fifth inning. That was it for the game’s scoring as Altamont was held scoreless in the bottom of the sixth despite having two runners in scoring position and then they sat Nokomis down one, two, three in the top of the seventh inning to close out the win. Altamont is now 2-8 on the season and they will be in action today, facing Okawville at 10:00am at Webster Park in Kinmundy and then playing again at Noon against an opponent to be determined.
