Vandals Rally Late for Win Over Neoga


The Vandalia Vandals used a 4-run fifth inning to come away with a 6-4 win over the Neoga Indians on Tuesday. After two and a half scoreless innings, the Vandals got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Andrew Casey singled to score Kohnor Depew and Jack Lewis to take a 2-0 lead. That lead would hold until the top of the fifth inning when Neoga would tack on three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Vandals would retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Adam Buscher led off with a single, and Camden Ruot reached on an error. Two batters later, Lewis would single to score a pair of runs, giving the Vandals a 4-3 lead. Casey would single to score Lewis, before Qwentyn Stombaugh would double to cap off a 4-run frame for Vandalia, giving them a 6-3 lead. The Indians would get a run back in the top of the sixth, but the Depew would throw a scoreless seventh inning, giving the Vandals the 6-4 win. The victory improves the Vandals to 7-3 on the season. Vandalia will be back at home on Thursday to take on Altamont.
